Keep-out pool cover   (+6, -2)  [vote for, against]
Don't let anyone sneak into your pool while you're away!

This plastic floating pool cover should look quite black, with plenty of artificial decomposed-looking leaves on top.

But the water underneath is actually clean.

When you're away for vacation and some kids on the street want to jump in for a swim when you're conveniently not home, they'll all say:

"I don't think so !"

Heh. I like this but also think a tall fence with a locked gate makes some sense, too.
-- bristolz, Mar 04 2002

The pic of the head of a hungry looking crocodile would be neat, too.
-- neelandan, Mar 04 2002

You'd have kids pestering you to allow them to mow it.
-- neelandan, Mar 04 2002

Or sneaking in for a quick game of croquet while you're out.

disgusting! the youth of today eh?

Only to the oldies of today.

(annotating my own post) The first one that isn't a fishbone (yet)!
-- blainez, Mar 06 2002

Well, it's a cool idea and now that it is in the proper category, it is even better.  Also, annotating your own post is expected and encouraged, especially to either defend or explain an idea further (if it is warranted).

No skate-boarders in your neighborhood, Mephista?

[Meph]: One way of keeping mosquitoes out of your hot tub would be to pour a couple of gallons of kerosene into it. The kerosene floats on the surface of the water and the larvae can't breathe. You may consider there to be disadvantages with this solution.
-- angel, Mar 06 2002

If you designed the pool with all ceramic tiles around the edge, you could burn the kerosene off when you were finished and have a barbecue. Top pool-side party, as long as people don't get impatient and start jumping in before the food's all cooked.

Or, a nice line of fake turds and dead cats to float on it should also keep kids out.

Mephista: Things to keep things from getting into your hot tub are baked. They're called 'covers'.

And draining the pool in some places is a Bad Idea. In Florida, USA, because of the high water table if you drain a pool it 'floats', the water will push it right out of the ground and crack it.

Mephista: I've used kerosene (and other VOCs such as Rustoleum) to keep out mosquitoes and reduce evaporation - and they work. But I've noticed that these chemicals will melt and distort the plastic or foam fittings at the water line.

never played the 'school' level of the original Tony Hawks pro skater have you Mephista?
-- kaz, Mar 11 2002

Olive oil should work, but will go rancid. The usual long term way of mentioning it is to use a drop or two of motor oil.
