Van de Graaff http://en.wikipedia...de_Graaff_generator
Correct spelling and some history [csea, Jul 20 2013]

I like it, one anonymised bun, to evade NSA..damn!

Who wouldn't want to have a huge Van de Graff generator in clothes closet? Except residents of Narnia.

Sp: Van de Graaff (note the two "a"s) [link] +

There are some subtleties, as the net result may be to have the lint travel back and forth between the cleaner and the cleaned item, delivering charge. But that might be nice, too.

This is pretty much baked by negative ion generators, which act as a fairly inefficient but rather cool dust precipitators.

But those are not built to roll your lint laden clothes on them, (it was not morrison's idea to have it in the closet, not mine), in any case as you pointed out they're inefficient, and most importantly, they have no visible sparks.

Van der Valk lint cleaner; removes samples from suspect's clothing for forensic analysis.

Might liven up the long winter evenings ...

I just see all those frikkin elves or whatever they have in Narnia asking if I've seen Azlan, as I try to slide the new looking lion-skin rug (with the electric shock burn marks) under the sofa with my foot.

Next is batik with strips of Hobbit intestines.

//right. de graph. de waltz is from de molecules. Pashute, I thought you had the right Vand de, but my subconscious mind typed van der graff.

another thing that might work is a piezoelectric lint roller; just have a ratchet on the rotating part with piezo units on the gear and zap, electric charge on the roller.

Is air going to be pumped across the metal sphere because the field, like gravity, has the attraction drop off quite quickly? or is my power bill going to be through the roof?

At least distance, most affecting, is [beanangel]'s idea.
