in sci fi when robots turn against people, what is the point of that? machines are things made by people to do things for them ,generally.
but maybe make a robot to hate people as a misanthropy labour saving device;ie to hate -for- you and leave you to do something else

Uh, explain if possible the force that bumps TV primetime wrestling to be replaced by robots that pursue, pound, push, and incinerate other robots.
Because robots actually destroying each other is cool. Wrestlers 'fighting' to a coreographed and predetermined script is not. |
Technobadger, the generally given reason is that the machines had been programmed for efficiency, and felt humans were inefficient. |
When these robots rise up and rebel, will they start giving flowers and chocs to all your enemies? You can just imagine Terminator 3: Arnie storming through a post-apocalyptic wasteland to deliver Milk Tray. |
My elf hates robots, but my Mountain Yeti loves them. |

I was thinking of Battlebots, myself. Is Craig Charles the black guy who used to host Robot Wars? <May still host the UK version...it's some white guy with an annoying voice on the US version...> |
Rules are necessary, or everyone would do pretty much the same thing as your tank, and it'd turn into either a demolition derby, or a war. Battlebots will allow you to enter a robot of any size, as long as it fits through the 8'x8' door, and is equal to or under the weight max. |

StarChaser: //Is Craig Charles the black guy who used to host Robot Wars?// |
Yes. He's always done the UK version. Starred as Lister in 'Red Dwarf' tv series (original UK version). Gotta say, despite their being 'dustbin/garden tool/canopener hybrids' <grin> as RT says, the Robot Wars machines could kick the Battlebots' arses any day. Gobsmackingly pansy-ass, they are. |
//and it'd turn into either a demolition derby, or a war// And your point is? |
Somebody needs to build/enter a robot with an EMP. |
My point is that demolition derbies already exist. The robots are better. |
At least one of the Robot Wars UK robots has come to the Battlebots US. Killerhurtz. Some unlucky draws in opponents, but he went down fighting... |
Robot Wars and Battlebots really aren't comparable...In Robot Wars, they have to do things like run races and play soccer...in Battlebots, it's just destroy things. |
Deity: EMP is specifically not allowed. <I'm half designing a robot, and read the rules...> I really wish they'd outlaw wedges. They're -boring-! |
//I really wish they'd outlaw wedges// |

Damn straight. It's one of my pet hates too. Damned wedgy-flipper things, no axes, no chainsaws, no pointy sticks, no nothing except their little flipper for turning another robot upside-down. BFD. |

Robots should settle their debates like adults, via chess or scissors-paper-stone. |
I want to build a robot based on a military piece of equipment...One of our customers here is Grainger, and I hope to get them to sponsor me... |
Human-hating robot? Surely that's Marvin the Paranoid Android from the Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy series? |
"Brain the size of a planet and they want me to rise up and fight humanity..." |
do robots have feelings and do people have no feelings? Which is more sensitive, people or robots? A robot cannot fight back after it has been ripped apart by people! What might a robot feel about that? |
