very small and lightweight air balloon (or should I say compartment) fills with air which is purified and sterilized. Like a SCUBA diving unit but much simpler. Takes the air from the air, feeds across a vegetative membrane with LED lights that cause the vegetation to breath in the air and put out oxygen, then through an ionizer and de-ionizer followed by ultra violet and infra red so that any known and dangerous viruses are broken down and reunite into new mutations. This way each person gets a unique and personal plague and we don't all die together in a matter of weeks.

       Bad biology [-]

The volume and mass of photosynthesizing plants needed to provide closed-circuit oxygenation to a single human is impractically non-portable; take a look at the figures for Biosphere Two (Although the objective there is not just atmospheric life-support, but nutrition).

Just the mass of the power storage devices alone would be prohibitive.

Bacteria are true workers so a radically altered bacteria in the membrane? To give cleaning ,+ voltage potential, + drug substrate output . Even the possibility of suicide bacteria with the job of just soaking up viruses.

Though, 'designing' cultures is always going to be a severe nightmare.
