I have a big dog. I also have many tomatoes from the garden. What a wonderful sight to see a dog covered with tomatoes! Wrap wires around the stems of the tomatoes and connect them to the dog's fur, sort of like christmas tree orniments mixed with earrings tied to the dog's body.

       Simply ridiculous.

Well, with both dog and tomatoes, you can surely do some field research here. And post the photos.

So, like a sausage dog for vegetarians.

if you'd ever had a dog, you'd know they do an awful lot of rolling over...

Tomato juice and vinegar are used on a dog when one has been sprayed by a skunk. Maybe if this had a practical application similar to that, I could think of voting for this idea, but otherwise, I don't think that it's very *dog-friendly*.

       NO

I suspect this would happen automatically if a squirrel ran through the tomato patch while the dog was out.
Galbinus_Caeli, Sep 10 2007

i knew a rottweiler who adored tomatoes. every few days in summer his owner would take him out to the garden and let him pick out his own tomato. he was very choosey. i think he would have liked this idea... minus the wires. so, a plus for getting gordo his tomatoes. minus for putting dangerous wires on a dog. neutral.

Good name for a dog though.
skinflaps, Sep 10 2007

it was appropriate in his case as well. also, he had a little eye problem so he always thought there was a fly buzzing around his head and he could often be seen licking the air in an attempt to eat it.

aww, mine used to like to pick raspberries...

       Ours picks cat turds.

I suppose, now, that if you needed a tomato you could just whistle.

One of my dogs ate salad, as long as there was some yummy kind of dressing on it. Another one picked porcupine quills...

It would be funny to [m-f-d] this for "recipe", but I won't...

how often should i water my tomato dog? i have been having trouble planting him, as every time i put his paws into the holes i dug he wriggles away.

Obligatory WIFRT - I thought it was going to be about a meat-free substitute for wieners.

If you think this idea might cause problems for your dog when it rolls over, consider what the tomatoes would have to go through. Shall we report this to the SPCF or the SPCV? (I can never remember whether the tomato is a fruit or a vegetable)

Ha Ha Ha to this idea.
The Kat, Sep 15 2007

       You would say that.

While aesthetically pleasing, this would even better if the tomatoes could be launched, either all at once, or individually.
