every so often it occurs to me to shred papers that have sensitive information on them like my bank details etc. this was impressed on me last summer when someone bought two mobile phones in my name and it was a difficult business to get the company to stop sending me invoices. coincidently at that time, I discovered my neighbour was writing a thesis on identity theft which was quite enlightening. apparently there are people who will actually sift through one’s rubbish looking for information that they can use fraudulently.

now, I don’t have the space for even a small shredder at home and don’t have that much call for one really but a pair of shredding scissors would be really useful.

please visualise a pair of bog-standard scissors and then imagine that adjoined to the usual handle and finger holes are 4 or 5 pairs of cutting blades set in the same direction. so that at every snip, they make 4 or 5 cuts; making short shrift of your simple shredding needs.

Oh, then you want something like these worm-chopping multi-blade fisherman's scissors. [jurist, Feb 26 2006]

Wow. "Pasta in a paper shredder" gets a hit. http://72.14.207.10...&gl=ca&ct=clnk&cd=1

Annotation:

We have a little shredder that fits on the waste bin - if you have space for a bin, you have space for a shredder.

I want these to take out and use in a public place. +

If you have no room at home for a paper shredder, then alternatively you might be able to make your angelhair pasta maker (motor-driven or hand-cranked) do double-duty as a page slicer. Cross-cut with standard scissors as frequently as you deem neccessary for personal security.

I'm truly flattered that you think I'm the kind of girl to have an angelhair pasta maker (whatever that is) ;)

Exactly like that, Shzy. well, perhaps a little less on the weighty side.

You don't know what a pasta maker is? Have you no room for bog-standard knowledge, either? ;-)

Hm. I wonder what the outcome would be if one were to try and make pasta using a paper shredder.

Shredding: Sports slang, to move with speed and style.

"Hey, you were really shredding with those scissors."

it was the angelhair angle that confused me - I got to thinking about those gadgets that weave and plait hair. I'd hate my hair to be shredded...
po, Feb 27 2006

I only suggested "angelhair" because I expected that you'd want to shred your sensitive personal documents as finely as possible to eliminate any possibility of re-assembly. But if you prefer the comparative speed of "linguini", "standard spaghetti", or "flat noodle" settings when slicing your papers, then I'll leave that to your personal discretion.

would this pasta maker cut paper?

//would this pasta maker cut paper?//

Why not? Although it's unlikely to be as efficient as the commercially available alternatives and may require that you pre-dampen your pages, at least you will be maximizing the use of cupboard space in your household. [link]

Do you have room for mice [po]? They like to rip up paper and turn it into little mouse beds.

I think my barber may already have a pair of these, judging by my present haircut.
I know what a pasta maker is - his name is Antonio.

You can get these at Kruger's, on Elm Street.
