it comes with A3 sized ordnance survey type maps; all the roads are scored along their length and digitally encrypted. A little programmable model car is set down at the start point of your route.

on a key pad you type in the co-ordinates of your start and finish points and several places on the way that you wish to visit e.g. coffee at a specific point on the M4, lunch at that swish little place on the main drag in llanfairpwllgwngogogarethgyndrobethllantysiliogogogoch (sp? cannot be bothered to look it up), take in a museum in the centre of London and then fish & chips and a beer in Lewes town centre. set the car down - it runs the distance on a couple of AA batteries and an LCD display on the top of the car displays the length of the journey and any hazardous weather condtions… oh OK I made that bit up – sorry.

Doesn't Mapquest already do this for you? Minus the little car, of course. And don't try telling me you don't have internet access in your car, [po].

Nick, that is postively spooky. did you do that deliberately?? Very sorry Nick but that link just had to go. feel free to put up half a dozen different ones.

Hey everybody! Nick put directions to his mum's house on the internet! Let's all go over there and see if she'll make us cookies or something!

I believe postcodes (which is what was used) narrow down a few houses.

thank you Nick. BTW that is such a nice link.

phoenix, phoenix, phoenix. yes lovely dear - but not half as much fun as mine eh?
