various cannons from old spanish to civil war up to present day cannons would be available for the public to shoot at various old cars, trailer homes etc. For people who find small calibre firearms boring at best. I was thinking around 100-200 dollars per shot. Includes 'mortar' for firing bowling balls.

       The "Junk Accelerator" got a pretty good review, but I like this better. The rail gun idea takes a large appliance or something and quietly tosses it over the horizon. This one lets you blast the bejeezus out of some large-caliber target while cramming your eardrums down your throat.

       You should probably change the category on this to "public: projectile sports."   

       I bet if you stocked the range with common targets of rage, you could develop quite an audience for this thing. Like SUVs, effigies of hated public figures, etc. (WTAGIPBAN)

       This is good, perhaps even very good. People go to to rifle ranges, and I understand there are places you can go to fire automatic weapons (I heard about one in L.A., [thumbwax]).   

       By definition, then, the "supersize" version must be viable. Personally, I would love to fire a big old colonial era cannon with a big fat fuse. sssssssss... *BOOM*! Yay!

       I doubt you can go anywhere in the US to fire fully-automatic weapons except in those states (if there are still any) where fully-auto weapons are legal to own (Texas?)

       But isn't Oregon one of the states that allows fully-automatic weapons if you have a Federal Firearms License and all that?   

       My point was that I doubt that fully-automatic weapons can be used at a rifle range unless the state allows fully-automatic weapons. In other words, I doubt that a rifle range, indoor or not, can get a variance in a state where they are disallowed.   

       But, on the other hand, I know so little about this that I should just shut up.

       Maybe it was semi-auto at the place in L.A.. I don't really know the diff between auto & semi-auto. I sort of recall being told you could legally shoot machine guns there.

       You can do this in China with rpg's for a price and in Russia with very large anti aircraft guns,i know someone who did it.

       I think in Russia you can also buy time in a modern MIG fighter. That would be worth it, I think, provided I was convinced of the airworthiness and maintenance of the craft.

       In China, there is a ceremonial firing of Jardine Matheson's Hotchkis 3-lb marine gun everyday at noon. You have to be very connected to get to pull the trigger and they'll only let you fire a blank. (link)

       a great idea, but i'd have to say it's baked. this "service" is available at the knob creek machine gun shoot, held bi-annually in knob creek, kentucky. you can pay to fire all sorts of weapons, from itsty-bitsy gatling guns, to civil-war cannons, to tank cannons.

       I was alarmed to see, last year, that at the annual military show on Salisbury plain they used the Larkhill artillery range to bake the opposite of this idea. People queued up to sit inside a bunker whilst the army rained down shells on them. Weird!
