I had a bad time sleeping last night. It was hot since the
super
is out of town and left the boiler on high. Everyone has
their
windows open, it's like summer up in here.
After getting up for the third time to brush my teeth and
debate the merits of taking a sleeping pill I had the sudden
urge to curl up in the tub. (without filling it with water)
So I did.
The cool, clean, porcelain was so soothing. It was like a
cave.
I could brace my feet on one side and my back on the
other.
It was too hard, but it was so cool... I thought of the little
stone coves wolves seek out for homes and I could see the
appeal. I felt a deep and primal calm.
Then I realized I was acting really weird and got up to surf
the
net for the phrase "sleeping in the tub" I found out that
many
people and animals seem to go for it, but no one has made a
tub-bed, or a cave-bed for people. I felt a little less weird
and
fell of to sleep on my husbands arm.
So, here is what I'd like. (I dreamed of it, in fact.) A bed that
looks like a giant porcelain model of the stomach. (think of a
big ovid-soild with a tube coming out of it on one side at
about 45 degrees from horizontal) You crawl in through a
hole. You may bring bedding and specially fitted pads to
soften it, or use it bare ... for that *primal* feeling.

Why let the drunks have all the fun? I've been searching
for hours and I can't find anything about a bed like this.
I've found some pet and cat beds that seem close, but I'm
suprised that no one has made any kind of
curl-up-in-a-cave type bed for people. There *is* a
market... |

I live in a basement. It's pretty cave like, and great in the summer, since it stays so cool (although with the moisture in the summer a broken dehumidifier is a catastrophe). In the winter its cold, which is also good for me since i like to sleep in the cold with 600 lbs (roughly 9 million kgs or something for you METRIC folk) of blankets. I wouldn't mind a mini-sleeping cave when I move out. |

I don't get claustrophobic very easily, but I thing waking up in the dark, surrounded by porcelain so that I couldn't even stand up to figure out where I was might just do it. |

If [futurebird] truly has her heart set on sleeping in a porcelainized body organ, she might try the Iron Lung link below, or a sensory deprivation tank for a more New Age approach. Both are ideal for that "primal" feeling. |

I think my cave would be more cave shaped (rather tub/bath shaped) and be made of smooth wood with a little moss pillow and a duvet of leaves. |

[snarfyguy]'s link made me recall the Ice Hotel (Sweden and Canada) that we've discussed on several previous idea threads. If you were just looking for a really "cool" place to lay your head, these seasonal destination resorts would defeinitely have to be considered. (link) |
