       Well, ballroom dancing is (allegedly) a competitive sport. I'm just worried what it'll do to their lovely hair and clothes. Spent the past 3 months sewing on 15000 sequins only to be tossed harshly into a blue mat.

       As you have clearly detected, technobadger, judo is merely the 'toned down for children' version of that most ferocious dance, The Tango.   

       Perhaps all judo competitions should be performed to tango music, with extra points being awarded for artistic interpretation.

       Sounds a bit like Capoeira, a fight-like dance developed by Brazilian slaves because they weren't allowed to practice fighting.
