As I'm currently working my bottom off and don't have that much freetime here, in the Land of the Rising Number of Earthquakes, I tend to read a lot.

I happened to notice in Quicksilver that the early Royal Society were interested in finding out, for reasons too convoluted to mention, how many sounds humans can make with the old vocal cords/mouth/tongue etc.

So, they obtain a dead person, cut off the head below the voice box, remove the brain and as one person operates a bellows for airflow the other one gets to put their hand in the skull and try manipulating the floppy bits.

I'm sure this would make a much more interesting science class than the old frog dissecting bit, and could even be cross-subject as useful for languages as well.

       This was done recently in a TV series (Inside Natures Giants - I'd post a link but they're all blocked by the work internet nazi software). Several large (dead) animals were dissected. Among the demonstrations involved were the sounds made by a lion and a crocodile. A piped air supply was fed into the bronchii and the larynx manipulated to produce the animals characteristic sound.
