The plain brown packet arrives, with many pencils, sheets of graph paper, and the series of co-ordinates of some hot babes.

Suitable for people who enjoy porno and are very patient and/or mathematically inclined and don't mind something a bit blocky.

But if it's all pixelly, how will you know which ones are Japanese?

Perhaps Japanese ladies are naturally pixellated in the more interesting areas? You can do the research.

Would also have worked back in the day to undermine the Soviet nuclear weapons programs...as there'd always be strange shortage of graph paper and the output from the maths department would grind to a halt. Retro version of stuxnet, as it were.

They are if the carpets match the drapes. Bare floors are apparently an acceptable loophole and thus air unaltered. So to speak.

       * or so I read; I've read far more about pornography than actually viewed the product itself, so my take on it may be a bit like that famous Renaissance painting of a lion that was painted by a guy who'd never seen a lion but who had read several detailed descriptions of lions.

Well, we have Durer's woodcut of a rhino (linky), sort of correct in places, and as for the camelopard...

Any red blooded human will see curves. French to be exact.

Aha, also works on Prince of Wales check, for surreptitious scribbling in chalk on the back of someone on the tube.
