lots of children these days do not have grannies for one reason or another. they do not ever know the love and warmth that only a granny can give them. these toy bears have all the time in the world for small people.
these elderly bears will appear to listen endlessly with a naughty twinkle and
on occasion a tear will fall from one of those wise old eyes onto that rosy cheek. the bears are so soft and smell of fresh laundry and lavender. they speak with kindness and the softly spoken words bear witness to a lifetime of experience, pleasures and pains.
their laughter rings out to gladden the saddest heart and they hold your hand tightly with their little paws and squeeze gently to reassure of their presence.
they are dressed quite quaintly, even oddly with a little old bonnet worn at a jaunty angle. their little faces are wrinkled and jowled; their hair is thin, grey and straight yet their broad toothless smile will lighten the bleakest of days.

Heh... if one of these were to attempt to fulfill all the functions my maternal grandmother did, it'd have to be up at 4:30 every morning to begin cooking and light housekeeping, make a sheet apple-pie (or equivalent) and fried chicken (or equivalent) every day, and most of all have a lead foot. My grandma drove like a bat out of hell... =) |
