gorn
Good horn to thank drivers. | |
The difference between the back-handed "thank you" sign a driver gives when given the right-of-way is frightfully similar to the bird. Therefore, I propose cars are outfitted with a second horn, to indicate to other drivers that you appreciate what has been done to/for you. The name "gorn" is an obvious
contraction of "good" and "horn".
When the nicer pitch of the gorn is eventually learned by all drivers, road rage may be reduced drastically because drivers think they're getting thanked every few kilometers. It's also more satisfactory to know that the helpee acknowledges the favour you've done them, and a gorn is harder to miss than a semi-curled hand being quickly raised out of a car window for a few moments.
I've written this up separately because I feel the "bird" issue needs to be addressed, and also this name is simply cooler.

^^^^ Up there ^^^^ look. "Thank you horn" |

It'll not be long before motorists start getting loud-speakers fitted to their cars. Make it much more personal I say... |
|

I really dispute that "gorn" a good name. When I saw the idea name, I thought "Some kind of robot or alien". Then I thought "Or probably knowing this place some kind of porn". At no time did I consider a horn of niceness. |

Captain! I have heard...every word
you have said... |

I shall be merciful and QUICK! |

"Gorn": lizard race/species/whatever from Star Trek. (link) |

I remember long long ago I posted a "good customer light" idea that went along similar lines. Yeah - it got fishboned pretty bad. |
|
|
I can just imagine [Klaatu] jumping for all his worth, straining to point to the "thank you horn" idea. |

Gorn on the gob.
Greme gorn.
Here today, gorn tomorow.
'Case nobody's said it yet. Welcome. |

[Lbaf] When one is only 4'9", it's a long reach way up there. |

I give this a two thumbs up. Whenever I politely hoot in order to signal to someone that they may cross the road or that it's their turn to drive or if I give them a gap I get the finger, consequently I get to work stressed and upset as I am prone to road rage etc. |
|
|
I might also have received hoots for the same reason and taken it up in the wrong way. It should become law! |

Having separate 'city' and 'country' horns was quite common in France at one time. |

Wasn't the Gorn a critter in the original Star Trek? A recall a big orange mound made of silicon that slid around in a mine. It was mad that miners were taking its eggs. Spock mind melded with it. He said "....pain!...". |
|
|
ok, the gorn were lizard men. That orange hump critter was something else. |

That's the Horta you're thinking of (link). The quote was (I believe) "The children! The children!" (the Horta was concerned about its offspring). |

The other day I stopped to let someone into traffic who obviously planned on crossing three lanes and making a left turn. |
|
|
To express his thanks he flipped me off. |
|
|
I'm not sure what my response should have been to that. I simply raised my defcon level several notches until he'd made his turn and gotten out of sight. |
