I've seen two reenactments in my life. One was a very elaborate Civil War reenactment. It was dead on accurate, down to intricate details like the canteens, belt buckles, muskets, etc. The actors were very serious. When they went down, they stayed down, motionless for almost an hour.

The other one was a Bonnie and Clyde bank robbery reenactment. It was silliness, but diverting in it's own way. The actress playing Bonnie was doing Faye Dunaway, the Clyde was very slight of build and moved like a ballet dancer. The car was 10 years off, the guns were plastic, with a dayglow orange tip on the barrel. Great fun though. Nice costumes. GREAT porkpies.

I was thinking that it might be fun here in my home town of Stratford on Avon, to put on a Gansta Reenactment. I mean what really happened at thar club, where they started playing “Throw Your Hood Up” by Lil Jon (see link) I thought it meant throw the hood up on your sweatshirt, but apparently it means demonstrate the gang sign from your neighborhood.

Push comes to shove an argument breaks out between rival gangs over turf . The heated discussion spills out onto the parking lot. Fisticuffs ensue. Guns are drawn.

Over two hundred shots are fired, and that is just from the automatic weapons that left their spent cartridges on the scene to be counted later by the local constabulary.

4 people were killed. 13 seriously injured.

This actually happened. (Lil Jon’s music is banned from most clubs.) I would like to see a reenactment of what exactly transpired that fateful evening in America.

AB (added benefit) Put some locals on an honest day’s work.

just the thing I want to see on stage, look at all the cool elements...
- rap music [-]
- people yelling at each other in a foreign language [-]
- everybody unidentifiable wearing hoodies, ankle-pants and $400 Air-Jordans [-]
- 200 shots fired and only 17 people got hit [-]

like "West Side Story" but without any plot... or characters... or intelligibility... or listenable music.
FlyingToaster, May 23 2008

       200 to 17 hit? That's like the A team.
plynthe, May 23 2008

okay, if you can get both William Shatner and Bruno Gerusi to play the parts of opposing gang leaders, then I'll bun it.
FlyingToaster, May 23 2008

It isn't on stage, it isn't a movie. It is a walk amongst it reenactment. Although I must say, using Shakespearian actors does give it a certain je ne sais quoi. Bruno Gerusi is available. One bun please. (slightly toasted)

changed to neutral... still holding out for ol' porkpie hisself, though... *might* settle for Patrick Stewart, but only if he says "Engage" as the fight scene starts (and at this point I've sortof lost where I was going in the first place)

theleopard, May 24 2008

       exactly. a silly, anachronistic affectation.
r_kreher, May 24 2008

Only trouble with this kind of thing in general is criminals tend to hide and cover up their activites, so the details are not usually well known.

Of course if you do have detailed picture of what happened then great!
Bad Jim, May 24 2008

// if you do have detailed picture of what happened //
