Fireworks that release coloured smoke, rather than relying on glowing sparks. This would be a bit like the Red Arrows/Blue Angels and would be useful for events when you want visual spectacle in bright sunshine. A lot of the exisiting technology in a firework factory could probably be reused.
The Red Barrows
http://members.mada...~722sqnatc/barrows/ They might already be using smoke in day time display, although they are not an arial display team. [Aristotle, Jun 26 2001, last modified Oct 21 2004]
You could arrange to have one of these at the same time.

{pedant hat} Peter, you're right, the Union Flag only becomes a Union Jack if it is flown from the rear of a ship... |

Before he got his night gig, David Letterman had a mid-morning show with a format and tone not too different from the current one. One of the recurring jokes on that show was the frequent daytime fireworks supposedly going off just outside the studio window. They would broadcast a brief segment of firewords sounds, complete with oohs and ahhs, and of course a perfectly normal daytime view out the window. |

Several Years ago I was atteneding a baseball game with my family. This was before the Atlanta Braves made their 'Big Comeback' and, for all intent and purposes, baseball was about dead as far as I was concerned. One of the attractions that this AA team had was the promise of fireworks at day. Being the pyromaniac that my teenage self was, I was intruiged. When the fireworks were set to go off, right after the Star Spangled Banner, I was getting worked up to see big explosions and lots of light and fire. I was let down, all I got to see was a few colored smoke bombs going off at the corners of the field and a streamers floating in the air. Nothing, absolutly nothing beats the real thing. |

Baked in China, where they're really serious about fireworks. Daytime fireworks are big on smoke, but the important part is loud, LOUD noises. |

Yep. Nothin' makes 'em forget that human rights thing faster'n loud, LOUD noises. |
