the years have rolled on and we have all grown up. the bullies look back and yearn to say sorry and make amends for their wicked ways.

the victims equally would like to give a piece of their mind to that bigmouth load of old dollop or the one with the evil grin with big fists who had his eye on your packed lunch. it is therapeutic for everyone. what the hell! lets not restrict this to the staff – let the ex-pupils register too.

who knows? new friendships may be forged. even wedding bells may ring out. that girl in Year 10 who beat the living crap out of you after double science on a Friday, may now be one beautiful, home-loving girl with child-bearing hips.

Didn't they make a film out of this? http://www.ifilm.co...699,2366241,00.html

Don't prisons already have some sort of pen-pal system? In the USA this would be an open invitation to file suit against said "home-loving girl" (child-bearing hips not withstanding).

Or the bullies may simply wallop the nerds, just for old time's sake.
snarfyguy, Jan 20 2003

Boy, there aren't enough fishbones for this one. Sorry, po.
waugsqueke, Jan 20 2003

Hmmm, for those who tend to bear grudges, this would be an ideal opportunity to find out the home and work addresses of a former tormentor and then make systematic and determined attempts to ruin and/or end their life.

For this reason I deplore the suggestion and would not want to be involved with this in any way shape or form. Besides, waht about all the people who don't feel guilty and don't have any intention of saying sorry ?

At my mother's urging, I did once register at one of those high school alumni sites. Got to gloat over the dismal fates of certain former classmates. Can't remember where it was, tho, and a quick Google search hasn't turned up much.

Guess I'll just have to ask my mother again.

[Why do I have this odd feeling that if we'd been to the same school, I would be one of the ones that waugs is hoping never to run into again?]

       Not just [waugs], methinks.

Quite possibly. I was not often one of the victims.

<showing student-ness> This is a common topic on daytime talkshows like 'Jerry Springer', 'Ricki Lake', 'Jenny Jones' and 'Trisha' (left the best 'til last!).

Basically, unrepentent bullies are brought on so that the 'successful' bullied can show off in their face. Titles go like - "You dissed me at school - but look at me NOW!" (cue girl that used to be ugly but now has cheerleader body and has become pole dancer - bully puts on 'so what' face and crowd jeers).

//I was neither bully nor bullied but seems to me that either state is innate and likely to persist in adult life.//

On the contrary - at least for the latter. My high school years were a pretty miserable existence of sustained and systematic harassment. Soon as I got the hell out of there, though, I rather quickly found that being a freak and a weirdo in the real world can give one a certain level of, um, coolness for want of a better word. The outsiders fired in the crucible of high school may well go on to be, like Matt Stone and Trey Parker, like Tim Burton, and like countless others, more interesting, more creative, more self-confident, more successful and ultimately happier than their peers, simply because they're more adapted to living outside the herd. They learn not to rely on cliques and coteries. They develop their own opinions. And people love em for it.

Hell, every high school should have the words "It doesn't last forever" emblazoned over the doorways as a beacon of hope to the bullied and a solemn warning to the bullies.

Still, I would be tempted to use this website in a VERY BAD way.

Reunited and it feels so good
Reunited 'cause we understood
There's one perfect fit
And, sugar, this one is it
We both are so excited 'cause we're reunited, hey, hey

Round 2!

Dear Tim Baker, wherever you are:

What with all the Karmic compound interest you've accumulated since we were in Ms. Bailey's 5th-Grade class of 1983, you might want to sign up for this ASAP. It ain't gonna get any prettier.

       Oh, and croissant.
Guncrazy, Jan 20 2003

Actually, I would prefer never to meet them again - my schoolmates (some of them, anyway) set my expectations for the human race so low that almost everyone I have met subsequently has been a pleasant surprise. To find out that they were reformed characters (with or without child-bearing hips) would require raising my benchmarks of humanity.

On a related note, I also think there would be good demand for "Convicts Reunited", e.g.: "Jim 'Crowbar' Smith, Belmarsh 1988-1992 (GBH) - now specialising in safebreaking in the Wandsworth area."
