get rid of the sleds, and put the blades on the athletes feet, as in speed-skating. you'd need some super strong legs to withstand some of the g-forces, and aerodynamics would be a huge factor too, but it sure would be interesting to watch.

No doubt this will show up on Extreme Sports. I'd watch.

Surely the aerodynamics of a person standing up is much less than of a person lying down, so wouldn't the g-forces be much less anyway through not being able to go as fast?

How about sewing the blades into the back or front of the costume and do away with the sled that way? Although it'd mean they would only be able to show it late at night in case of tears...

I've seen a snowboarding video where some professional idiot slides down a bobsled track on ice skates. I can't say how fast it would be possible to go - this guy kept falling over/chickening out. It looked like after reaching a certain speed he was having real difficulty turning.

bliss, perhaps you could ask him for me: If there's really virtually no ability to steer, what skill is tested that makes this activity rise to the level of an Olympic sport? I don't mean any sarcasm until and unless I find that there really is no skill involved. But right now I'm honestly just curious to know if there's some skill involved that I'm missing.
