When I was still a teenager in the mid 1980s, I met a
guy who went around the world on his bicycle
(through Alaska with
a short boat trip, and across the
Pacific on a longer ride). His bike was stolen in
Bombay (as it was called then) and he had rocks
thrown at him in Northern Syria. I remember
wondering what Jewish settlers passed through that
area... Some years later my wife's little then seven
year old brother had a rock removed from the three
layers of bone in his head, just touching the brain,
when his father's car was ambushed.
