Everyone is familiar with children's 'magic
slate' toys which are made of a layer of
plastic, a layer of something else and a
layer of something like carbon paper. A
stylus or a fingernail can be used to
make
the back two layers stick together which
makes a black mark appear. Evering can
be erased by pulling a slider across to
separate the layers.
This idea is
to make clothing from 'magic slate'
technology. It needs to be something
relatively stiff, so I've chosen a blazer. It
would appear light grey but could have
any pattern drawn on it in black lines.
Also
(and this is why I wanted it) it would hold
notes you want to make to yourself when
you don't have a pencil and paper. You
could just scribble on the sleeve "Buy
milk
on the way home" or "Remember to worm
the cat". Cunning 'layer separators' built
into the sleeves, the jacket panels, etc.
would be used to erase everything.

There is an inherent danger to making the back of the blazer out of the same magic slate material - strangers could write "kick me" messages across your back. Of course, the upside would be the potential revenue to be gained from leasing out advertising space. |

A cunning stunt in a stunning coat. |

I tried to erase Evering once. He didn't like it. |

I have a suede leather jacket. Bruch your hand one way, then make marks with your fingers in the other direction. Hold at an angle to the light and !Viola! |

I also have a suede leather jacket. |

The stiffness is key. The covering film of such slates is incredibly easy to crease and, in an effort to avoid damaging the garment, the wearer would probably have to adopt the ambulatory manner of the Tin Man, twinkliness of eye is not a pre-requisite. |

This would have made Memento a very different film. |

I don't remember Tin Man in Memento. buggar, I should have written it down. |

I had one of these, but the actual scribing surface was day-glo magenta...make for a very eye-catching blazer. |

To separate the layers, a small self-inflation valve/setup could be used. Functional, and it gives you some extra thermal insulation in the winter. |

what about when you sit down? or you fall asleep on your desk and stuff erase or marks appear? what about when some one bumps into you and erases stuff. or perhaps a bridge collapses and you have to save someone by having them grab onto the other end of your jacket as you hold one end? everything on the sleeves are erased so the chicks number you just got at the bar a couple of hours ago... KAPUT! nice idea though i'm sure with a few tweaks here and there we can all have note jackets or maybe the old writing stuff on our hands is just to conventional |
