"Rip Van Winkle" HB Layout Joke

To fool people who have slept for a long time

Hi everybody, how's it been going? I haven't been on this site for almost a year, since I quit last May, in order to stop spending so much time on the Internet.

I "half-expected" (ha ha) that when I came back, the page would now be all rainbow colors, multi-dimensional voting scales, a font besides Trebuchet, the 50¢ price tag on the croissant label would be like $3.00 by now; ads for Acai Berry scams on the margins... It's amazing how stable this site is!

But for fun, there could be a feature where, if someone doesn't log on for over 6 months and then comes back, the site temporarily shows a fake screen that looks like a complete new layout (but clicking on it would make that disappear and the real site reappear). What do you think?

Hope you are all doing well. -Phundug

That's a good point about the croissant price. If you saw that very product for that price would you buy it?

       (+) Hope you've been well.

hi phundug, I'm not too in favor of that screen for every returning h'baker. but for april fool day that would have been very good. I tuned in yesterday expecting to see some sort of trickery, but sadly, all was normal at recent.

Hey, if it's any consolation, I got fired for April Fool's Day.

Maybe they'll hire you back on the next one.

Rip Van Winkle slept for twenty years, and the Halfbakery hasn't been around quite that long yet (except perhaps as the germ of an idea in Jutta's mind). But if Rip had only taken "half" a nap ten years ago on March 6, 2000, he might have woken today to a slightly different-looking layout from the one that caused him to doze. At least it was colorful back then! <link>

Great history lesson, jurist. And phundug, I love your idea, and have missed you.

{expletives}! If it wasn't a joke, then good luck out there!

Yes, sorry [MB]. I would say you're unemployed but by no means unemploy_able_ though.

A more cruel version of this idea would be a page with a message "The halfbakery has been discontinued due to lack of resources." The croissant logo would read "Sold"

Clicking anywhere or closing the browser, of course, would cause this fake screen to disappear and the real Halfbakery to show up, no doubt improving appreciation of it :)

       + yes bun, welcome back!
(please just go quit some other site!!)

The halfbakery font is Trebuchet? How fitting.
