Zen Lawnmower

The sound of one blade cutting

The Zen Lawnmower consists of an autonomous mobile platform carrying a high-precision binocular camera microscope, an image recognition system, a set of precision micromanipulators, a supply of cyanoacrylate adhesive, and a tiny scythe made by a Japanese master swordsmith.

As the device moves over the lawn, each grass blade in turn is held on its upper and lower portions by a micromanpulator. It is then cut in a single clean stroke by the scythe.

The unit then applies a miniscule amount of adhesive to the severed stem, and holds them together until the bond sets. It then moves on to the next stem.

Thus, the lawn is cut, and yet the lawn is not cut, so satisfying the requirements of Zen.

Swordsmiths make swords; scythesmiths make scythes.

No it doesn't. You just made that up.

Swordsmiths produce many forms of Nihonto, including pole arms; persuading one to produce a tiny yet perfect version of, for example, a .Naginata can be achieved by the crude yet effective expedient of offering them large amounts of money.

And yes, we made up the bit about the tiny scythe, but it could be done - it's not a WIBNI ...

I endorse this lawnmower- however, I think the lawn over time will develop silvery highlights as the mown portion of the grass ought to wither (assuming the adhesive is applied to the sides of the stem to form an unspliced joint, rather than re-connecting any internal sappery tissue) subsequent mowings increasing the phenomena even more pronouncedly.

I expect Schroedinger would approve. He sends a bun.

Can you hear the sound of one mower mowing? Well, yes actually I can.

So not exactly 100% zen, but you could probably get a Leonard out of it..
