Personalising cell phones has become big business; people are prepared to pay for their own ringtone and snap-on cover plates.
The credit card industry is enormous, and there's surprisingly little differentiation between products. Banks could allow customers to submit their own image files (JPG)
over the Internet. These would then be used as the design for the customer's credit and debit cards.
