Despite the abundance of available ring tones, tune popularity and statistics contribute to the event you've seen time again -- Wagner comes on and everyone in the meeting reaches for their cellphone, looking like idiots.

Using Wi-Fi, BlueTooth and the Cellphone Ringer Exponential Backoff Algorithm, you will first be notified that you have a conflicting ring tone and then prompted to change it or to ask the other party to change it. If they refuse, or if you match on your second choice you get asked again.

If nothing else, this will make the meeting a lot more interesting

If they refuse, you challenge them to a duel. +

I'd rather be able to set a list of preferred ringtones, and have my phone automatically select down the list when it encounters a conflicting one in the vicinity. Apart from saving me the effort of pulling out my phone and manually resetting my ringtone several times a day, which would be roughly as annoying as the problem it sets out to solve, it would add a little variety to my mundane existence, never knowing which tone my phone was going to use next, and never knowing who was the mysterious stranger with the same taste in telephonic audible notification.

And the two phones could play rock paper scissors over Bluetooth to see who has to downgrade their tone.

I figured it was too obvious to have been missed. Just couldn't find it when I searched.

This would perfectly not work. Your top three choices are "Toast", "99 Red Balloons" and "The Old Barley Shag". Your cow orker's top three choices are "Toast", "99 Red Balloons" and "The Old Barley Shag".

Suddenly, "99 Red Balloons" blares out. Who reaches for their phone?

Just set your phone to vibrate and ring at the same rime
