Choose obscure island of modest size. Bury the largest hydrogen bombs you can build. Make sure that they are of a size and power-level that is more than sufficient to cleanse the planet of all life-forms. Connect to portable hair-trigger and "deadman switch" device. Then: publish detailed schematics, photographs, etc. to prove that the installation exists and can do what you claim it can do. Then, become World Monarch and establish a hereditary dynasty.

In Stanley Kubrick's classic movie, Russia develops almost exactly what you describe, but they call it a "doomsday device" [AfroAssault, Dec 20 2000, last modified Oct 04 2004]

We're not capable of building weapons powerful enough to "cleanse the planet of all life-forms".

There's not really much point in using hydrogen bombs; nobody will care that you've blown up your island, they will care about the radioactive fallout. For that, you probably want devices scattered around the globe that will release atomized Pu or something.

Even if you did manage to get your hands on the required materiel, I'm pretty sure the world's leaders would rather see the cataclysm happen than unanimously abdicate. And any such deadman device will have its weak point, especially if you publish the schematics...

But would you be happy? Seems like a naff idea to want to rule the world. You'd have no-one to moan about, because everything would be your fault.
