A winter themed casino and hotel on the Las Vegas strip that would look like a huge Swiss alpine mountain and ski resort lodge. The huge mountain with fake snow on the outside would be hollow of course, like the Materhorn in Disneyland, with indoor skiing year round including several quad lifts, ski
trails and snowboard half-pipes. The snow facilities would offer ski and snowboard rentals. There would be an indoor ice skaing rink with skate rentals, a snow playground, tobogan hills, slay rides, ice gardens with live carvings, indoor ice climbing and on the back side, a full sized hockey arena. The casino would have the look and feel of an indoor/outdoor winter playground with snow, pine trees, frozen ponds with one side a big wooden log cabin complex with a Swiss Miss feel to it with fireplaces, etc. The hostesses would be dressed in Swiss Miss costumes. On the top of the 'mountain' there would be a swiss style restaurant with a great view and could be reached by a gondola on the outside of the casino that would ride up a cable. The rollarcoaster would be a ice bobsled ride. The restaurants in the 'lodge' would be winter and snow themed as well as the nightclubs. The Palms Casino in Vegas has 'Rain, the club' which has indoor rain so this one would have 'Snow, the club' in which it would snow for real inside the club. All the waitresses would be dressed as Snow Bunnies. The food court would be at the bottom of the ski hill and the fast food restaurants would feature ski-through pickup windows. The hotel rooms would line the sides of the indoor ski hills and would look like swiss chalets on the mountain with hottubs on the outside decks over looking the ski slopes.
I think the real draw would be the indoor snow skiing in August in the desert.
Maybe not as extreme as the ice hotel in James Bond's Die Another Day, but something similar might be 'cool'.

Reno Hilton
http://www.renohilton.com/ Fianceé was Supervisor there for 11 years. Bally's had purchased the MGM Grand shortly before she started. Hilton bought out Bally's @ 6 years later. You can put an entire football stadium inside of it. And it's not the only game in town. Just up the road a spell is Lake Tahoe. [thumbwax, Oct 04 2004, last modified Oct 21 2004]

Las Vegas is not the only gambling destination in Nevada. Reno. Can you guess the name of The Biggest Little City In The World? Reno. Would you propose a a Casino in TBLCITW which makes it feel as if you've walked outside into a blast furnace? Reno. |

a casino like that would suck, unless it was gambling on the snowboard races or something. what might work is a solo place specifically for snowboarding or skiing, in areas where snow or mountains do not exist. but it would still be a waste of money, because all the people that live in these areas, either, do not know how to ski/snowboard. or wouldnt be interested in doing it. i myself would, and so would .000028 percent of the people in the area where i live. |

Vegas and lake Taho (where I used to race) are very close-- I think there are a few little casinos there too... |

I like the idea, although I think Vegas consumes quite enough electricity already. On the pracitcal level, how much power would it take to have indoor ski-slopes in August... not just slopes, a whole mountain?. Still, if someone did decide to do this instead of, say, supplying fresh, safe drinking water for the entire world, I might be inclined to stop in. |

Also on the practical level, the ice hotel exists - in Sweden they make it every year, using sheets of clear river ice for the windows, etc. Also apparently there's a model in Quebec. |
