On the rear window of all new vehicles, an electronic image display device (RVWCIS) that allows users to project an image or any number of images across their rear window that allows other drivers etc on the outside to see the image, yet still allows the driver to view what is behind from inside the
vehicle. Obvious things like defamatory images and text would be illegal, but for example, on todays anniversary of Sept 11 attacks, you could display the entire rear window with the USA flag etc. During hot summer days, you could set the tint function on to maximum tint levels to keep the car cool, and then on cloudy days, you can set the tint to minimum. The glass itself would be a hybrid mixture of crystal/photo synthetic cell type that would allow such images to be projected.
To get the images on there, the device is connected to your mobile phone that has the original image stored and transfers it to the RVWCIS. Some new phones allow images to be sent from a PC, so you could download any image you wanted. In the future, phones will have better memory capacity to store higher resolution images etc.
Advertising would be an immediate benefit, especially on taxis etc.

do you mean this sort of thing which advertisers put on London buses?

Welcome to HB. This appears to be a reasonably well argued and thought through idea, albeit without paragraphs. Could you link this to some kind of TV receiver to broadcast movies on your rear window? |

We got a Maori in our midst? |

Appropriate name anyhow, considering the date. Tena koe. |

// I just hate when a new person's idea is ignored // |

Quite a few ideas are being ignored lately .... I think the volume of new ideas has increased. UB hasn't found my "Caterpillarbox" idea yet and I'd expected him to have tipped at least a gallon of Vitriol over it by now ..... |
As to the idea - I think Pilkingtons "Smart Glass" is not far off being able to do this. |
Sorry about the paragraphs thing. |
Should I patent this thing? Is it worthy of merit, other uses could be to let drivers behind you know that their lights are on full etc |
just a few more thoughts... |

LCDs are pretty low power devices. If you could turn your car windows opaque - and keep them like that when parked - it could be handy if you have a hatchback with stuff in the back you'd rather other people didn't see (I experience this quite frequently and carry a sheet in the car for just this purpose). |
Handy for romantic assignations, too .... |

[KiaKaha, you can re-edit your idea to add a couple of blank lines, if you want to see what it looks like. When looking at your idea while you're logged in, you'll see an editing field at the bottom of your page; edit the text there, then press "OK", and the text of the idea will change to your new input.] |

rather than project it onto the rear window, maybe project it onto the ground behind the car. I'm thinking of using a low-power laser (like a pointer) which can be switched superfast to draw words or pictures. Maybe like an animated dove of peace or a thought for the day. Illegality is an issue of course... |

i still havn't seen a *how* yet, except the hybrid cell
halfsentance, only thing i can think of to make it work is
lcd, and getting those into high tensile shatterproof glass
would be no easy feat, if you did it tho, well you'll just
have to let me and all us at halfbakery join in your new
found wealth. 'advice on what to say when car company's
ask for a price'- stick a cigar in your mouth and say "pick a
number and put a lot of zeros behind it"! |
unfortunately i don't think that road restrictions would
allow it in a car (yet) as the computer controlling the
glass would just beg to be hacked and well have all sorts
of crazy stuff in all the windows of stupid teenagers and
right-wing neo-nazifolk |
and electronic glass shading is in all the major companys
demo cars nowadays |
however a perfect practical use for it is in the front
screen, mixed with a special camera system that tracks
the eyes and a camera viewing the road would edge
outlining,
flourescent green (not too bright) outlining the road and
edges of forign objects in the field of vision of the driver,
safety plus! especially at night. |
