Looking up the time on a cellphone requires both hands and a swipe gesture; not so good when bicycling or driving, etc. Google Glass and similar devices will soon be equipped with gesture recognition. I suggest that the 'glancing at a wristwatch' gesture be a signal to overlay a virtual wristwatch on the heads-up display.

Annotation:

For those without Glass, strap the smartphone to your arm. The front mounted camera tracks your eyes and when it sees you glance at the phone it displays the time.

I just wear a cheap watch on my wrist.

Might not work for glass unless you usually glance at your wristwatch with the top right hand corner of your right eye, but I guess the gesture could just make glass display the time normally.
