Hanging from your chest harness this four-foot contraption lets you easily advance by raising and lowering the four feet.

The passive mechanical version uses only your strength. It is similar to using crutches, except that they reach high up above you, and you are "hanging" in your chest harness under them, and there are two "crutches" on each side, one holding you while the other is swinging forward. We'll have to try it out to see if they can be independent of each other or move in pairs, or have a wheel above that turns and places the legs in the correct position.

A robotic version could have the legs independent and then it would be more like a hexapod (spider-like) contraption.

       Wm. Gibson’s 2020 novel Agency features a severely crippled ex-military operative using a powered ‘vehicle’ with 4 arms/legs that skitters around at speed, doing Ninja stuff. The interesting aspect is that his consciousness is manifested via a future world and affects the timeline in the past.   

       It seems like a monstrous amount of power is needed to make this work. It’s like the human-powered bicycle airplane only gets 6’ off the ground. Not enough juice.

       I thought that's what I said, minus the alternative timeline. In this case the detail of an alternative timeline wasn't pertinent to the comment. I thought the power requirement was more germaine than the subplot in the novel.
