Not just flying. The undercarriage is raised and lowered manually; because of the placement of the lever close to the fuselage longerons, incautious use can cause a very nasty injury known as "Spitfire knuckle". |

It's truly remarkable, when reviewing ATC and CVR recordings, how very, very civil and polite aircrew are - even in the face of imminent and unavoidable death. |
