These are shoes with range-finding lasers in the toe to detect
imminent collisions with obstacles such as cracks in sidewalks, toys on
stairs, and bullies' feet. Once an imminent collision is detected, the
shoe beeps at you to give you just enough time to either adjust the
swing of your foot
or
brace for impact.
Can I buy the aftermarket kit to add on to these?

I don't think you'd have enough time in a normal stride to change direction; in fact the 'beep' would give you just enough time to tense up thus maximizing damage... [+] |

Oh yeah, of course there's an after-market kit, Norm. |

Could the lasers be made powerful enough to vapourise the obstacle? |
|
|
...but only if walking in them produces the energy to power the gizmos. |

|
Would the additional length of the toe (for the sensors and possibly lasers) increase my own natural tendency to trip over things? |
|

Pocmloc and 2 fries, I don't see why either of those should be a
problem. I actually thought of the higherpower lasers myself.
Would be a great thing to have in a fight, too. We've discussed
shoe power before, so take your pick of the many viable
mechanisms.

Gnomethang, that wouldn't be an issue if the equipment was
either mounted on top or embedded and recessed in the sole. |
