The Non Clapping, Clapping Music

make the clapping music without the clapping

I just received approval from minimalist composer Steve Reich to conduct a version of his famous Clapping Music, only without the clapping.

This means that the piece will be performed in its entirety without the hands of the musicians making any sound as their palms won't actually impact. Every other aspect of the Clapping Music will remain in place except with this delivery there will be no clapping.

aka "I Can't Believe They're Not Clapping"

That Steve Reich video is brilliant - I don't know how they manage to keep time like that. I couldn't resist adding the Shirley Ellis link (see link) though...

       I remember it well.

This would be really tricky, as without any impact they'd have to rely on opposing muscle to prevent clapping.

Can we just dub 4' 33" in top of it? If you adjust the tempo a bit it would fit.

A LED light switch pad between hands, that deadens sound or a little heat and Schlieren photography to capture movement?

You're a day late with your suggestion.

Solutions to the hard April problems are usually at few days out.

"My thinking is that if you don’t have the right melody, it really doesn’t matter what you have to say, people don’t hear it. They only are available to hear when the sound entrances and makes people open to the thought. Really the key to ‘The Sound of Silence’ is the simplicity..."

Paul Simon, on the relativity of the melody vs lyrics. I wonder if this would help us to understand [xenzag's] idea of no clapping during the clapping song.

Also, I think it would add value and genuiness if the lead singer would stop demanding that every one must "clap".
