Tell The City

Uncommunicated travelling causes traffic. You tell the city you're going to travel there and the city knows how many persons are going to be passing through, so traffic is eliminated. You are warned not to travel

The city knows how much road capacity there is and how much hotels and rooms it has.

Tell the city you're coming and it shall adjust it's measurements and places and give you discount to travel at less busy times

This is interesting but can you elaborate? What does the city specifically change to mitigate the anticipated high traffic impact to certain areas? Bun pending.

doctorremulac3 The highway agencies know how many cars are on the roads and the capacity of them - they know when there is traffic and when there is not.

The highway agencies know where the roads go between and know the "main roads" link roads or where persons are trying to head towards.

If persons report to the city they're going to that they seek to make a journey then you can do capacity analysis or flow analysis.

The idea to include the city is make the city a hub of information that can be used to informed travel decisions.

If most persons tell the city they intend to make a journey the city can provide back pressure to encourage persons not to travel and when to travel

Cars could link to the nearby city planner and tell you cheap easy journeys you can do without traffic.

Hotel rooms always available for when you travel.

Traffic monitoring from your car and there's always a safe hotel room available

Include the city in travel decisions and the city makes the journeys of everyone better.

I have tried to avoid including payment into it.

How would persons respond to being told - don't travel between this time and this time without telling us you're coming.

This would really fit nicely with my dream of AI controlled ultralight electric cars and their specially designated roadways. [+]

A roadway that was dedicated only for autonomous self driving vehicles seems to solve the problem of making them safe for arterial routes and not having to expect everything in their programming.

The high speed car would drive in the same lane and have a protocol if an unexpected thing were to enter its sight ahead in the road.

Could you even give it a roof or put it in a tunnel?

You could have a system where you make a previsionary "I would like to travel to this destination on this date or before this date or within the next week or month but it is not certain"

this gives the system a way of reacting to demand that is sudden or discretionary.

Does everyone really have to travel at the same time to get to a destination at 8am or 9am work?

       // ultralight electric cars //

Three words that do not currently go together. How to make? Aerogel Li-ion batteries (or gaseous Li-ion) in a carbon fiber body, helium-filled seats and nitrogen-filled bumpers so that cars bounce around when colliding? Hmm

There's an extent to which this is already done in an ad-hoc privatised kind of way.

This afternoon I had to go to an event an hour's drive away on the other side of a big city.

I put the destination into goggle maps, put my motoring hat firmly onto my head, and set off in my motor-car.

As I drove along the motorway towards the city, the estimated arrival time increased alarmingly faster than the time on the clock. Eventually Mr. Goggle announced in his usual suave and sophisticated cut-glass accent, "I have a cunning plan, I would politely suggest that you turn off at junction six and use the southern ring road" (not actually as polite as that but Mr Goggle was always a bit of a cad).

How does the proposed idea extend this situation? Does it make Mr. Goggle the official master of all city traffic, does it make compulsory the wearing of Mr Goggle's Octagonal Goggles?

Potentially [marked-for-deletion] partially baked in the real world unless some novel additional features are proposed.

pocmloc, the hotel component is part of the thoughts/idea.

You travel somewhere and for some reason you cannot continue your journey, a hotel is booked for you because the city has capacity.
