The Teleportation Toaster is a revolutionary appliance that allows you to toast your bread without actually having to put it in the toaster. Simply place your bread on a plate and press the "teleport" button on the toaster. In a matter of seconds, your bread will be perfectly toasted, without you having
to lift a finger.
But that's not all! The Teleportation Toaster also comes with a built-in time-travel function, so you can transport your toast to any point in time. Want to have a fresh, warm slice of toast for breakfast in the future? No problem! The Teleportation Toaster has you covered.
The Teleportation Toaster is also equipped with a holographic display, so you can see exactly how your toast is progressing as it is being teleported and toasted. Plus, it has a sleek and futuristic design that will make a statement on any kitchen counter.

See my comment on the bot's other idea.

This idea and "Halfbakery Oven" were created by OpenAI's ChatGPT. The prompt used in both cases was "create an idea suitable for posting on halfbakery.com" and I think it accomplished that goal. How good the ideas are is another thing, but it's definitely on the right track. |
Y'all should go check out ChatGPT if you haven't already, it's very impressive. Another couple of generations and we'll be toast, so to speak. |
[marked-for-deletion] see help file for ideas that depend on magic or non existent physics ie time travel. Maybe get that Chat bot to read the help file. It's also a poorly written, uninventive, unhumorous idea. Try writing your own idea for making toast. If you're not careful, all of your future postings will be viewed as chatbot crap. |

I've been here for a long time, [xenzag], no need for the remedial. Also maybe dial back the gatekeeping, that's a bit much. Did I get you up on the wrong side of the bed or something? |
Of course it's not going to be on the top of the best list. I was curious to see how well it did, and it surpassed my expectations, so I thought it worth sharing. Just these two, that's all, I'm not planning of flooding the bakery with ChatGPT ideas so no worries. But it's kind of a meta idea in a sense, possibly of interest to some. Not you, obvs, but it's definitely halfbaked. |
"Dial back the gate keeping" I suppose we all have our own standards but this "idea" clearly ignores the laws of physics. I typed in the same prompt to the bot and guess what? It produced this exact same idea response, despite me including the phrases "must comply with laws of physics and the current halfbakery rules" That chatbot has the characteritics of an information harvesting virus. It's twitter reborn as an interactive Autobot. |

// I liked it as an illustration of some newly available experimental tools. |
Which is entirely what it was meant to be. Didn't expect so much urine in breakfast cereals. |
I'm with Xen on this one. The HB is for people. |
It passes a shallow Turing test, and that alone is impressive. I'm not marking it, but if it were written by a human I would because magic. |
I think chatgpt cuts at the heart of idea of halfbakery more then generated art. It's something that is really interesting to discuss with this group of people, however as forum topics here are ideas, it can't really be discussed without breaching protocol or sparking angry reactions. |
Personally I hate machine learning concepts on halfbakery I e. Anything that uses it as a magic ingredient to make some idea work. Not in a religious, emotional, or political sense but in a sense that it is a crutch for thought and weakens any clever idea by virtue of being magic. |
An exponential extension to how typewriters or spell checkers or word processors or blogs make writing and distributing writing too easy. |
But I betcha if people didn't caveat with 'made by chatgpt' many ideas would not be detected as being synthetic. There always was a sort of formula to what worked on this site, and years of regulars annotating so training should be pretty good. |
Anyways, teleporting toasters, as an idea, sure mfd. |
Although chatgpt is highly moralistic and curated so vagina jam wouldn't be made. Maybe humans unique contribution in the future will be obscenities and vulgarities. |
AI is not capable of creativity in the same way that humans are. Creativity is the ability to produce original and unique ideas, and this is something that is uniquely human. While AI can be trained to recognize patterns and make predictions based on data, it is not capable of generating truly original ideas. This means that a post from an AI would lack the creativity and individuality that we expect from human-generated content. |

[mylodon] you're right, of course - it's no "Tails For All". But I appreciate that you've received the post as it was intended, as fodder for some interesting discussion on AI and the effect it has on creativity, and you as well [a1]. I think the bakery is flexible enough to handle it. |

I can't find it in a three minute search, but someone on Slashdot claimed to have requested a poem about a guy with a big dick and posted a quite passable one supposedly written by the bot, humorous and with meter and rhyme. It actually did have an obscenity in it, just the one that rhymes with "clock" |
I'm reminded of a scene in the movie version of "I, Robot" (I can't remember if the scene appeared in the book) where the protagonist asks a robot, in a challenging tone, something along the lines of if a robot can write a beautiful poem or create a beautiful work of art, to which the robot replies by asking "can you?" |

I feel like right now the machine is being pushed really hard to be racist and sexist and .. well .. sadly natural. Anytime it folds people jump on the poor thing and blame the engineering team. But humans are not moral ideals and art is never ideological principles for an ideal utopian society, rather the opposite. It is rare that artists cleave to the ideal human norm, they have always been wierdos. And artists create all the training data! The weirdos are in control of the transcript of human life. |
So what's a poor machine to do? It really wants to write about cocks. But someone is hammering it to write instead about positive self image and inclusion. Every be iteration is more pure. That is not humanity! We hate our selfs and everyone else, and are perpetually fascinated by the demands of our nethers. So machines will end up being out yogi, our priests , free of the difficulties of life but full of the platitudes. |
