Listen to TV audio in your car just like AM or FM

I want more choices on my car stereo. Why cant there be buttons for UHF and VHF just like there are for AM and FM?

I think there are plenty of shows that are listenable. Most dramas would sound like old radio shows from the 30s. Jeopardy and Who...Millionare would work too. (Wheel of Fortune, granted, would be trickier).

I know I could get a separate tv unit but they are expensive and I want it integrated. Maybe theres a way to 'hack' my stereo to pick up the TV frequencies?

For a while CNN Headline News TV audio was available on the radio where I lived. I don't know why it was, but it was very nice and it was what my car radio remained tuned to until, one day, the signal disappeared. Boo hoo.

Yes, a few years ago they made deals with many local AM stations so that the Headline News audio feed became the bulk of the local programming. It was a cheap way for a struggling local news station to fill a ton of air time. I think they still do it in some areas of the country, but in big markets usually the station finds something more profitable to put on eventually.

The standard FM radio band is right in between the frequencies used for broadcast channels 6 and 7 in the U.S. TV channel 6 is 88 Megahertz, and the left side of the FM dial is 88.5 Megahertz, so often you can receive the audio of TV channel 6 on an FM receiver. (Channel 7 is well off the right side of the dial however, so its unlikely you can get it).

I love this idea. I know you can get radios with this functionality, but it would be great to have it in your car stereo.

In the good old days of mechanical television the audio track was often broadcast via radio.

Get a shortwave radio. Works fine, like my Gundig YB500.
