Mainstream porn has a standardized way of story-telling, as does much symphonical music of the 19th and 20th century. The dramaturgical lines of porn flics and some of the great symphonies seem structurally quite close. Instead of a droning pseudo-disco muzak as a musical background I propose that porn flics be modelled and edited following the lines of, say, the Parzifal prelude, or Dvorak's 9th or whatever music you may find which adheres to the slow tension build-up paradigm of the late romantic period.

[Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin tried it along the pop-music lines, but due to the inherent dullness of this kind of music it never took off as a new composing style. Also, the images were missing.]

Of course, you'll never be able again just to listen to those pieces with an untroubled mind. And in concert, better wear wide trousers.

Ravel's Bolero, of course. Sexuality is inherently hilarious, as Blake Edwards knew (see '10')...

[Note: I am responding to this post as if porn = erotica, which is A-OK, healthy, joyful. Conversely, hardcore porn is demeaning, nasty, painful, almost completely devoid of story line, and therefore not funny, but sad.]

       Bolero. Try it.

I can't hear classical music without thinking of cartoons. And I can't go up in elevators without feeling aroused.
