Most people, when their computer is doing something that takes a moderately long time, just sit there and stare at the status bar.

Software companies could take advantage of this undiverted customer attention. They could put scrolling text messages in their progress bars, and make some money on the side .

It wouldn't too objectional but it would only appeal to companies that want their brand associated with a delay.

Or - you could do the other way round in a 'Tired of waiting for ever for.......?' kind of a way.

Sounds excellent, inasmuch as my browser has no status bar. *grin*

Baked. It's already possible, and extremely annoying, to have scrolling or otherwise animated text in the status bar.

It makes the whole thing flicker and slows the browser down. So of course advertisers love it.

Web sites that scroll in the status bar use frames for their menus. In webmaster terms,

       they suck.

When I'm waiting for The Little 36Kbps That Could to churn out another page, I switch to my other browser. Two browsers, babe. Only way to go.
