A satellite TV channel specializing in that most obsessive of subcultures, Star Trek.
So with four television series (the last three with over one hundred hour long episodes each, not to mention a new on in the works) 10 movies, the cartoon series, plus various documentaries, there is more than
enough content to keep such a channel afloat, plus since most of the content is already produced, the programming for a large part of the schedule would be very cheap. Just royalties to PAramount (who would most likely be the driving force behind such a project).
Advertising revenue and profits could be used to produce original Trek based programming. Mini-biopics on cast members and writers (a la E! "Celebrity Profile"), A shop at home program specializing in Trek stuff (a la QVC), talk shows about Trekkie culture etc.
Sure it might seem like a dumb idea to you, but it this were out there, people WOULD watch it.
for the fans

Slightly off topic, but...

Trek related programming only. Everything else can go on the Sci Fi channel. |

My favroite idea for a series would be "Red Shirt Diaries" each of the anonymous actors who played the red shirt guy (always Ensign something or other) would get to tell his story, his experiences on the show, etc. |
It would have to be bi-lingual in both English and Klingon, with subtitles in one language when the other is speaking. You could have Federation Academy Challenge (a quiz show for costumed fans) and all kinds of programming for hard-core Trekies. |
Damn, I had this idea back around "Star Trek Beer" and forgot to post it. |
(Like Ravenswood, and unlike "Star Trek Beer," this gets my vote not because I would consume it, but because I know people would.) |
About the "Federation Academy Challenge" annotated idea... that could attract non-Trek fans by showing them how funny and obsessive other people are. My brother watches Jerry Springer to laugh at weird people, I'm sure he'd give "FAC" a chance. |

UN:do you keep any kind of list of future /pending ideas ? |
Would much prefer a Doctor Who channel. |

(sits back, enjoying his Romulan ale, petting his tribble...) |
I'd like to see a klingon karaoke show. Maybe it'd have music videos with the lyrics written across the bottom of the screen.... AND a klingon smiley face bouncing on the words. That would be cool. |

Couldn't you feasably do this with
Tivo? |

Plot wise, Babylon 5 is better
anyway. JMS should have his own
channel. |
Plot wise? B5 was not better in any fashion than the whole of Star Trek. It might be better than one series or another, but not the whole. |
Paramount could bring their Comedy Channel know-how to the Trek franchise, to produce a Trek-universe sitcom
<Majel Roddenberry voice>Warning - tenuous puns imminent</MRv>:

"Mad About Q" - the wacky misadventures of Q and that Q-ess he "married" in Voyager. Guffaw as they bicker over changing e, the universal charge of an electron! Chuckle as Mrs Q continually interrupts Mr Q's pointless tormenting of Captain Picard! And look out... 'cos here comes Baby Q! |
"The Bridge" - mockumentary following the day-to-day lives of a starship crew. (In fact, this would be a much better idea than a straight Yankification of "The Office".) |
"Yes, Grand Nagus" - the Ferengi civil servants who wield all the real power, and use it mainly to keep the politicians from rocking their very comfortable boat. |
I'd only vote for this idea if you promise that the series "Enterprise" is not counted as part of the Star Trek Universe and is never shown on the Star Trek Channel. |
But the film "Free Enterprise" is shown. |

Love that flick. (WTAGIPBAN) |
