Now that "Battlebots" is getting shown on ordinary broadcast television (wider audience available than a cable channel), it could be appropriate for the HalfBakery to devote a category to the topic. I'm suggesting "Kombot" as a variation of "Kombat", which itself is a variation of "Combat". I didn't want to spell it "Combot" because it looks too similar to another notion altogether, "Commbot" (communications robot).

I'm going to link a couple existing Ideas that could be moved to that category. And I have a couple more notions I'd like to write down, which could fit in that category. Perhaps the HB crowd could jointly concoct a competition robot....

... constructed in polished mahogany and brass, running on an over-unity powerplant fuelled by custard, supported on hundred of dear little pink legs, and equipped with an air-conditioned beehive, a genuine Louis XIV crystal chandelier, and a ferret exercise assault course, all controlled by a microminaturised Jaquard frame using recycled AOL CDs as the memory plaques ...

Would we move all the posts, currently in

       product: robot: fighting ,

       to there ?
FlyingToaster, Jul 26 2015

[FlyingToaster], I was not aware that fighting robots were a product you could buy in a store, like you can buy cookies in a store. (The nearest thing that I can think of are known as "Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots" but technically they are more like puppets than robots.) I would definitely say that that category deserves to be moved somewhere else. Robot fighting IS being widely treated as a sport.

[8th of 7], there are weight limits to consider...

We may be forced to forego the air conditioning in the beehive, then ...

Perhaps the beehive could have some kind of fractal shape to allow passive cooling?
pocmloc, Jul 27 2015

We were thinking more along the lines of taking a power feed from the ferret's exercise wheel, but yes, that would be good too.

It may be necessary to reduce the amount of jam, as well

Holy crap. The wrestling robots in the third link are very impressive indeed!

They need a ball-bearing inside each foot, extruded for quick sideways movements.
FlyingToaster, Jul 27 2015

Does anyone know if the robots in that third link are fully autonomous, or remote controlled?
MaxwellBuchanan, Jul 27 2015

It appears that the Sports category has a "Fighting" section, and all I really need to ask for is a "Robots" subsection. Please?
