I can't listen to radio because of all the loud car, jewelry and ambulance chaser ads. TV is now split screening [1] commercials so you can continue to watch the game, race or whatever, while the commercial is playing on a screen at the same time; it's very pleasing to me. If listening to classic rock
and roll on the radio, the commercial would have a theme based on the jest of a classic rock and roll song playing in the background. A commercial selling a sports car could have The Beach Boys "409" playing in the background. The words to the song could be used to the advantage of the advertiser: "She's real fine my 409 She's real fine my 409 My 409 Well I saved my pennies and I saved my dimes..." The car dealer could say something like, "You don't have to save your pennies and dimes with our low prices..." Jewelers could play "Diamond Girl" while they talked about how their discount price jewelry and loans to meet societal requirements of how much you should spend for a ring -- just the thing to make that girl yours..." Trial lawyers could run "Mobb Deep f/ Method Man 'Extortion' (1996) while the attorney explains how they got in the law business purely for YOUR benefit with complete disregard for the 30% cut they get on the out of court settlement. In words, rather than the more expensive "how to" video on TV commercials, the attorney could explain in detail how to locate a phone and dial a telephone number to initiate that new McDonalds hot coffee in the lap lawsuit [2]. New arrangements would have to made in musician's royalty payments, but I am sure the artists would love to have the air time for their tunes, except for Neal Young [3].

Is it not simpler to listen to a non-commercial
station? |
