Aim: To simulate swinging through a metropolis like Spiderman, soaring over buildings and round sky-scrapers, but safely and with little or no skill from the participant.
Method: Two parallel zip lines are erected across a sprawling city-scape. Upon them run two Rail-Cars, which
contain a motor-controlled reel of rope/cord. These cords extend to a harness between the Rail-Cars. The Rail-Cars (depending on science) either move over the static lines or are fixed to one place and the entire zip-line itself moves, controlled by enormous reels either end (little help?).
As the Rail-Cars speed down the zip-lines the cord-reels inside them either extend or pull back inter-dependently, ie, if one extends, the other pulls in, and vice-versa. This will create a hyperbolic trajectory for the participant in the harness, simulating the effect of swinging from a succession of single cords.
Effect: With only the ropes from your harness anywhere near you, as you fly through the air you will hear very little noise from the Rail-Cars above, enhancing your experience. The Rail-Cars, programmed to retract and extend their support ropes at given sections of the zip-line, keep you permanently in peril, whilst safe from harm.
Bonus features: Once set up and running safely, can be opened to the public for a sizable fee. Costume provided. Large quantities of Kazzam guaranteed. Cameras on buildings could snap you as you hurtle past, the photos from which are quickly edited to remove the ropes (using colour-replace on them against a previous shot of the background from that camera's angle) and insert a web from your wrist.
Awesomest.

I love the font on your illustration. |

Everyday I learn something here. Thanks for the link. And
I like the idea too.+ |

I've mocked up an example of the take-home gift you'd receive at the
end of your flight through the city a front page cover story in the
Daily Bugle featuring YOU mid-flight. For the mock up I've chosen New
York mayor Michael Bloomberg, chosen for the New York ride's
inaugural launch. [linky-5] |

I'm considering a start-up business that endeavours to simulate all
manner of super-hero powers for the average shmo, the Spidey-
Ride! being but the first in a series. |
|
|
The business would start small, with Batman-like antics, moving on
to car-hurling a la Superman, General Zod et al. |
|
|
The firm's ultimate goal, of course, would be to emulate the Silver
Surfer and hope that science keeps up with us. |
|
|
I'm asking for £500,000 for a 20% equity share in the business,
preferably looking for investors in the New York/Gotham City area. |
