Often the problem with the underground train system in our cities is the delays caused by people obstructing the doors and the travel time wasted when fellow passengers fight to enter and exit the train.
I have devised a unique method of speed loading passengers. Picture this if you will:
Rows of
special forward facing seats await the arriving passengers on platform 1 - seats that they may occupy at their leisure while waiting for the next train. The train arrives, and instantly the trains gull wing doors open the full length of the train on both sides. Hydraulic rams slide the "cassette" of seated passengers within the train on to platform 2 and simultaneously slide the seats and passengers on platform one in to the train. The train doors close, the train speeds off. The passengers on platform 2 can now vacate their special sliding seats without rush or fuss.
My calculations suggest that a "speed loading train" need only stop for a matter of seconds the only practical limit being the danger of side-sliding passenger whiplash.

I think this is a more fun - possibly even 'funner' - method of putting passengers onto a fast-moving train. [hippo, Oct 05 2007]

What if someone wants to stay on the
train? |

The indivdual seats should be able to be programmed by the seatee to either remain on the train or be ejected from the train at any given stop. |

Welcome to the Halfbakery. |

[normzone], that would introduce problems of logistics or on-board automated seat-sorting; unless the train was only one seat wide. |

I like it. The unloaded platform could move back across the tracks, which would be tricky, or one would have to load from alternating sides, which would be more practical. It would not be fun to run to catch your train and find they were loading from the opposite side that time. |

I love that episode where Homer sits on a caracticus. |

For orbital (rather than radial) journeys, I feel that the passengers should remain seated comfortably in underground stations while the city itself rotates sedately above their heads. Please note, I don't *think* this for a moment, I just feel it. |

does the train need to stop? how about a "cassette" that accelerates in a short distance to the speed of the train which is then loaded onto the moving train. |

I do quite enjoy this idea. So there would be 3 sets of parallel rails running in the stations? One for the train in the middle and 2 on either side to facilitate the cassette trains? If so, many many crossiants sir! And welcome to the bakery, post on |

At the Loop in Osaka there are lines painted on the platforms to indicate where to line up for the doors of specific trains - Express, Local, Ladies Car, etc. The trains stop precisely on target (and on time!) every couple of miuntes on each of the 11 parallel tracks. |
