Spaminoes

Turn Nuisance into Fun for Two or More Players

Dominoes played with spam. A spamino is made up of 2 spam emails. Players take turns "placing" spaminoes (forwarding 2 spam emails) so that adjacent spam email topics match.

Put your genuinely unsolicited spam into a separate folder and order by date. Valid spaminoes are any adjacent pair of emails. Delete used spaminoes as you go.

3 Player Example: Bob forwards Rob 2 spam emails: "Get Rich Ultra Quick" "Get Your Free Viagra Here!" This is the starting spamino.

Rob forwards Bobbie 2 spam emails: "Lazy and Floppy? You Need Mail Order Viagra" "Penis Enlargement and Complimentary Ice Pack" This spamino latches onto the Viagra end of the first spamino.

Bobbie forwards Bob 2 spam emails: "Make Money So Fast You'll Get A Nosebleed" "The Erection Increaser - Will Induce Fainting (In You!)" This spamino could attach at either end of the chain, so Bobbie must nominate where it goes.

Players drop out when they can't place any of their spaminos. The winner is the remaining last player.

The categories should be agreed in advance. All the other players must be copied in so they can keep track of the game and protest if they think an illegal move has been made. On the spot adjudication may be necessary to categorise some spaminoes, e.g. "Our Topless Staff Are Ready To Help You Consolidate Your Debt"

This would only encourage the evil spammers.

       Beans, egg, spam.

But this perpetuates even more spamming!

at last a use for spam.

[Dimandja]: Fair enough that this is only sending the spam to your friend for purposes of a game (like playing 'snap' with junk mail you receive in the post) but it still involves throwing out unnecessary email (and I hate all forms of trivial use of Internet). <wink>

Spam filtration systems are becoming more and more prevalent, so enjoy this game while it lasts. Soon it will be very difficult to play.

Also, players might run the risk of being tagged as spammers by the filters, which means suddenly you wouldn't be able to talk to your friends at all. All your email (or even all the outbound mail from your ISP) will suddenly start disappearing.

I applaud you for coming up with a use for spam, however. Maybe you could have a separate client for the game so that the spams are being sent back and forth via a non-email channel, thereby avoiding the filters. That would also allow you to play domino variants that require a 2D board, like 'Chicken Foot'.

And here was me expecting dominoes made out of canned meat.

I do appreciate the inventiveness coming up with a usable and workable method of doing this. However, one of the major problems with spam is the amount of bandwidth wasted moving it around. This idea would only increase that problem, so I have to vote against it.
waugsqueke, Jan 21 2003

It is nonetheless an increase in something which should be a decrease.
waugsqueke, Jan 21 2003

The definition of spam is unsolicited commercial email. Messages sent during this game are solicited by the other players, and not commercial. Therefore they are no longer spam.

Ergo playing this game does not "increase" spam at all. QED.
krelnik, Jan 21 2003

I didn't say it increases spam. I said it increases the use of bandwidth moving this stuff around. The mail used bandwidth once getting to the original recipient... now it's going to use it again, possibly many times, during the game play.

Please don't get into one of these last word things again.
waugsqueke, Jan 21 2003

Exactly, Dimandja! If someone wants to use their email capacity to send message X to a friend who is expecting it, why should that be wrong just because the content of X originated with something that was unsolicited? It makes no sense. An email itself is neither right nor wrong, the ethics of it lie in the manner in which it is sent. Playing a game by email voluntarily is not the same thing as spamming unsuspecting people.

If you follow waugs' logic along, you should ban any game that uses email as its conduit. For instance chess by email.

       //Please don't...//
It takes two to tango.

This thing look like the guy lost in the forest. After a while, becomes insane and start looking at something cool to do with his poo... Sorry, but it's too sad to hear that... Welcome in 2003 buddy.
