For people who are blind

This is a sound screen for people who are blind. It could have every pixel be a separate little speaker or be a hole that can be opened or close to allow through a sound from an environment behind the screen. This would work if there were screens on all walls of a room so that stereo effects could be exploited. First application -- goal ball pong.

Maybe the best environment for this sound screen would be for it to be on a floor, so that many people could hear a sound coming from a dynamically changing location. The best application would be computerized goal ball where blind and blind folded players play with a sonified ball (link)

No luck finding a link so far, but a company made a panel of tiny speakers, 2cm or so each, awhile ago. I doubt if they were individually addressable though.

so as you watch a movie along with the soundtrack coming from the real speakers, there's also a constant low hiss from the wall?

I think a better application would be to have a small sound screen device that you lay your fingers on. With earphones on, you would hear the regular soundtrack, but with the fingers you would feel whats happening. - it could replace the afaik stupid, expensive, and mostly useless tactile devices.

I think holophonics or Quasonama would be far easier to implement, and wouldn't be as limited in size.
