So this is just a backpack with a form similar to that of a snail shell.

Perhaps if you want to be fancy the zip could go along the spiral and there could be several progressively smaller compartments inside. But really I'd be okay with it just unzipping around most of the 'neck' of the shell (the roundish flat part which would go against your back when in use).

I really thought this would already be a product, but I've googled for it, and it doesn't seem to be.

I'm seeing lots of turtle shell backpacks and snail holloween costumes consisting of a fake shell hanging on the back like a backpack, but not an actual backpack shaped like a snail shell.

Patent opportunity? Keep in mind, you don't need a patent unless you think it's a multi million dollar idea that somebody's going to steal.

That being said, not sure how many kids want to look like a snail. The turtle thing is explainable from the hero tenage mutant ninja turtles thing.

Maybe if you make a cartoon "Super Space Snails" or something to prep the market? Patent the backpack and then make millions. Might be a way to break into the fast paced, big money, kid's novelty backpack game.

       Clever anyway. [+]

Sturton keeps a stable of racing snails; he tried taking the shell off one of them to speed it up, but in fact since then it's been much more sluggish ...

Or a turtle shell, [Loris] for lighter loads.

The Intercalary has one of those. Unfortunately he made it from a real Hawksbill turtle shell, which caused no end of trouble when the wildlife conservation people spotted him.

Or even a tortoise. Just as long as you don't get turned upside down while you're crawling through a desert ...

Surprised this doesn't exist given how topologically simple and therefore cost-effective one would be.

Good idea, hopefully without the slime trail.
