Phone has a little cartride with several odorants. Instead of ringing the phone can release puffs of some smell. When the ringer is off the caller receives an announcement like "The party you are calling has disabled the ringer but may be available. You can notify the party about your desire to communicate
with a puff of odorant please enter:
(1) for cherry
(2) for lemon
(3) for boiled cabbage
(4) to raise a real stink"
This will lead to a whole new market for phone smells, similar to exchangeable face plates and ring tones. There will also be follow up inventions like tubes that guide the smell from the phone in your pocket to your nose. Watch the economy boom!

Keitai Kunkun - Is the first among the world!
http://www.pixen.co.../keitai_kunkun.html This probably works on the same principle as the little "light-up" cell phone pendants, which would mean that it doesn't work with run-of-the-mill US cellphones. Still, it's nice to know someone's covered this. [jutta, Dec 05 2005]

<sniff> cherry?
"Hold on a sec someone's on the other line. |

This would be a wonderful form of caller ID... |

For [po] it would probably be some man in a bottle. |

The real challenge might be 3 way calling. And conferencing, forget it. |

"Sorry I missed your call, I was out on the patio and the phone was downwind." |

How will you stop the smells lingering around the phone while you talk on it? |
|
|
Just let them linger, they will drift off eventually. If someone calls while you are talking it could just make the usual call-waiting noise. |
|
|
Oh God! That smells terrible! Whose phone was that?!? |
|
|
Not the phone, was the Energizer Bunny in the walkman; told you to use Copper Top. |
|
|
How about something like a color printer cartridge? Instead of having cartridges for the smell of cherry, or lemon, ect... we have odor ingredients to make various smells. Such as a person could talk on the cell phone to another person and use a "smell capture" feature and transmit that smell to your friends phone. |

I have a Nokia 5120 so my phone is not state-of-the-art, but what about a flip-phone with the scent nozzle by the hinge pointed towards your nose. This could also help people use the correct ear-to-front angle your supposed to use with cellular phones. (Which, again, is not so important with the flip phones anymore with the speaker between your ear and the antenna. This also could help to use scent more efficently also. |

I dont where you get them from.. but keep it rolling! + |

You could have called this idea the "Smellyphone". That would have been funnier.... |
