In an average barber shop, the customer sits in a chair that has
a large circular metal base, which in turn has a pillar in
the middle, supporting the chair. We want that base, but a
smaller-diameter pillar.
The pillar is basically a quite-long bicycle-seat post, and a real
bicycle seat is
attached to the top of the post. The post itself
probably should be in two parts, telescope-able. Put a fat
metal pin
through some holes in the posts, to select a particular height.
Then sit on the seat, while your feet can be flat on the metal
base. At
any given moment you are free to decide how much weight to
be
supported by the seat, or supported by your legs. Near the top
of the telescoping post can be a swivel, so that you don't have
to re-orient the whole sitand just to face a different direction.

Shooting Stick Seats

Something like this, perhaps ?

This sounds like a traditional shooting-stick seat,
only with a base more firmly rooted to the floor -
see link. |
|
|
Looks to me like a bicycle seat would be considerably more
comfortable. |
|
|
Haven't tried one with an actual bicycle seat (I assume you mean the touring type rather than racing), but drummers and keyboardists often use collapsible/portable saddle-type seats - wider than a bicycle seat, though. |

[FlyingToaster], "something like that", perhaps, except I
see that your link is more about SEATS than about
mostly standing while simultaneously sitting. I note the
seat-supports shown would interfere with foot-positions
while standing, but not while basically/normally seated
(feet are off to one side of the base). I specified that
round flattish base in the main Idea specifically to avoid
tangling the feet/legs in the seat-supports. |
|
|
Also, the max height listed is only about 2 feet; many
average folks, per this Idea, would need heights more
like 2.5 to 3 feet. |
