At last, you can boast to your friends and family how many miles you've sewed , instead of the tiresome old approach to bragging by way of posting photos of all your pretty sewing on social media. Much simpler and a good way to prevent provoking envy. After all - telling people that you've sewed 48,2 miles of straight stitch the past month sounds more like a record of jail time than display of creative prowess, doesn't it? And besides the social advantages, there's a practical side. Sewing projects can be measured in terms of mileage, determining the amount of thread and TIME needed. (Although one seldom needs to add herbs to a sewing project - unless it's a scented hot water bottle cover, of course). Plus! When you've finally had your fill of being a complete sew and sew, you can advertise your machine for sale according to the mileage on the odometer. Nuff said.

I learned to machine sew on an ancient Singer treadle - I would have liked this feature on that machine. (+)

Preferred the first version. Is there going to be a third or fourth? Second question: why is it in “general category”? grrrrrrr This could attract a bone! Standards must be maintained.

A possible 3rd and even a 4th version, depending if I can make my mileage before midnight. Which would probably be the equivalent of only few yards, except that I'm sewing by hand, because there's certain things that can't be stitched by a machine, with or without an odometer., so the mph is a bit slower. And I thought I put this in Product category¿ Predictably productive as I am, this week. And if you find that odious, wait til post the 5th version. That's if I don't run out of oil.....

I usually just do “addendum” on the first one myself.

//I put this in Product category// Why is it not in the "product - sewing machine" category? Attention to details are important in the HB...... letting you off with bad sentence construction and syntax so far :-) as you seem like an American - hahaha Meanwhile, a third or fourth version will need to be substantially different to the two posted already to avoid being bone magnets. Do you only invent stitch counters? What else have you got to offer - we (well I do anyway) get bored here very quickly, but welcome anyway.

I'm not American, but I do invent plenty of novel, sometimes useful, and all too often half-baked, things. That's why I'm here. I've only just got started. Wondering right now if I can bake half a time-expanding machine.

Hmm... does it measure the straight-forward distance for all stitch types, or more "along the stitch", so a zig-zag would be longer?

The Sewdometer(Pty Ltd TM©®- see? I'm ALMOST American), measures the distance that the eye of the needle covers, using a micro sensor that detects thread motion, but only when the needle is moving up and down (or up and down plus side to side when using the zigzag stitch), so zigzag covers more distance, odometrically speaking. Length of thread used would not accurately indicate distance covered, as you can pull miles of thread through a sewing machine needle without making a single stitch. Winding on the bobbin doesn't count as distance either. But there could be an added doohickey on the bobbin casing that measures bobbin thread used, for the sake of cost projecting thread required. There, I think I've got this one stitched up in good time. Hope it saves nine.

Nice to see you back here, [Edie].

I've been to some of the poorest countries in the world and no one but no one will sew up a hole in your pocket (to any effect). How GD hard is it to order a pack of replacement pockets and sew them back in?

Oh, the idea. The numbers should be adjusted by difficulty level.

With the caveat that the learner must be doing new things and trying to improve there is definitely a correlation between amount of work done and skill at performing the work. I would like to know total unpublished lines of novel completed by an author before I buy his book.

Ah, so my suspicions/auspicions were correct. .This IS a creative writer's forum. Wonderful.

Thank you Pertinax . . Glad to be back. Thanks to oxy moly contra penta forni supra denarentinate. NOT. (:
