Scrolling music score

An iPad app showing a musical score (landscape view), that automatically side-scrolls when it detects/hears the correct notes have been played. It saves having to turn pages.

EDIT: With versions for Kindle, Galaxy Tab, Nook or any other tablet. Happy?

I am trying to see if I can get Garageband to display notes of music that I record. Specifically, whistling "My Funny Valentine". So far no luck.

I've used my Nook Touch to view musical scores, but it's a bit involved to scan, rotate, edit and size appropriate chunks into .pdfs.

It would be cool if it could recognize commands like "Try that again from measure 21" or "Letter G," etc.

This technology is just around the corner! I can't wait!

I bet my a cappella group about a year ago that we'd all be reading scores from iPads or something similar within 5 years, maybe sooner!

//iPads// oh please somebody have the common sense to make it into an iReader of some sort, without the attendant fragility, superfluosity, cost and power requirements of supporting an LCD screen.
FlyingToaster, Nov 17 2011

It can just listen and record notes in real time too.

Meh - a much better medium for this is the kindle, and large e-paper music stands are already baked.
mitxela, Nov 17 2011

What are large e-paper music stands?
simonj, Nov 18 2011

I imagine they would be music stands that use e-paper, only in this instance they are large.
spidermother, Nov 18 2011

//baked// haven't seen one yet and the 'concept' included automatic page turning through recognition of the notes being played, which leaves no doubt in my mind as to how soon it'll be coming out.

//I imagine they would be music stands that use e- paper, only in this instance they are large.

and how does that relate to this app?
simonj, Nov 18 2011

       I think this is brilliant.
MaxwellBuchanan, Nov 18 2011

I would get the Retro version of this, a mechanical page turner with L shaped brass arms. A camera on a stalk scans the page, the score is OCR'd and then the listening software correlates what it hears with what it sees and automatically turns the page on demand. A knect gesture interface also allows the musician to gesture for forward or backward page turns.

Hi guys. I'm from Tonara, the app pocmloc introduced to the discussion. I just wanted to answer some of the issues you brought up: Tonara will be available to all tablets, we "ain't hatin'" no one. Heck, some of our best friends are Androids. Also, there are no plans to develop Tonara for the iPhone, because its screen is just too darn small. Imagine trying to squint at it during a concert. Not good. Keep up the good work and feel free to contact me on all Tonara issues - ayelet@tonara.com

baked by every larger orchestra that has computer screens in front of them
fho, Nov 26 2011

Hello [Tonara], your offering is rather fatally limited by only allowing pieces of music to be obtained from yourself. It would not take much to allow the import of other music notation formats. Also, I can think of lots of useful uses for a miniature version. Seems to me you are wilfully limiting the usability of your programme just because you can.
pocmloc, Nov 26 2011

meh. Eventually I'll end up subbing in at the last minute into an orchestra/choir that uses these things and be messed up by automatic page turning from the software and reflected lights off the hardware.

I can just see it picking up the tuba notes from the guy behind me and helpfully turning the page.
FlyingToaster, Nov 26 2011

Hey Tonara did you just quickly bake this after reading my idea...Hmmmm? I said LANDSCAPE view
simonj, Dec 05 2011

I thought about this back in the early 00's a few windy concerts in outdoor parks would be terrible. At the time tablets weren't really around and I didn't fathom mult-touch screens or high resolution. Seems very doable these days.

I would add that with wireless you could also ahve them sinked so the conductor could control the page turns OR show a metronome or meter or cues or what not. maybe he could tint your page if your section was too loud or soft (more for students than pro's)

all possible just takes someone time to program it.
