Science Holidays would be celebrate able by everyone, on the equinoxes and solstices, and based on the seasons/ stages of life - spring- birth, summer- youth, fall- old age and winter- death. No more jesus vs Santa clause and east vs west.

Some neo-pagan types have chucked out enough mystickal stuff that they are basickally left with this.

so early agrarian religions. old baked is still baked.

While I agree that celebrating civilization's scientific progress is a good thing : mfd.

I thought this would be about holidays *from* science - special days when normal rigour would be relaxed - when people could just publish results they thought they saw once, never reproduced, could extrapolate unwarranted conclusions from those results and could get their mates to corroborate their confirmation bias. Then we eat, drink and set the world to rights.

4 isn't enough. How about the aphelion and perihelion too? Lunar eclipses maybe? (In the spirit of globally consistent holidays, I'm not suggesting solar eclipses, since they aren't visible from everywhere.)

I think jhc just needs to put in a little more work, like the good people of Vyborg, he is close to the finnish.

Removing all of the cultural background from holidays would make them frankly boring.
RayfordSteele, Dec 01 2014

Frankley services are pretty boring, but it's handy for Hollywood.

Regrettably it's not going to get the 'Gone with the Wind' Atlanta being burnt bit.

Just of out of curiosity, did they name the place 'Atlanta' just to remind the residents what the name of the big wet thing was?
